Deadly disease outbreaks due to bacteria Escherichia coli (E. coli), a new type in Europe, quite alarming. That's because until recently infected and dozens of people died. For Indonesia, the Ministry of Health today sure have not found any dangerous bacteria.
"In Indonesia there is no case, and did not find any E-Coli new strains, but must remain vigilant because the disease is bacteria resistant to antibiotics and drugs used to," said Minister of Health, Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih, the Ministry of Health on Monday, June 6, 2011.
The trigger of this disease caused by E. coli, most likely because the consumption of vegetables is not sterile and without washing. Therefore, make sure the food to be processed has been washed clean, as a precautionary measure.
"This case in Europe was so excited, because her new E-coli strain. And most people in Europe have the disease due to E. coli because the consumption of vegetables are not washed thoroughly. So to prevent E. coli is similar to prevent diarrheal disease, "said Minister of Health.
The bacteria E. Coli is a dangerous new type called enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (EHEC). The incubation period of bacteria ranged from three to eight days, an average of four days. Most patients can actually be cured within 10 days.
But the disease can be deadly in a condition called haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), as happened in Europe. HUS is characterized by acute renal failure, anemia and platelet deficiency (acute renal failure, haemolytic anemia and thrombocytopenia).
Included also, neurological disorders to stroke and coma. It is estimated, about 10 percent of EHEC-infected patients will progress to HUS, and a mortality rate of 3 to 5 percent.
